Southern scored on its first posession, going 77 yards in 11 plays in a Shore Conference game. Quarterback Dan Higgins threw a 3-yard pass to TJ Bellissimo for the touchdown. Higgins threw four passes for 63 yards in the scoring drive.

After the kickoff, Red Bank Catholic's quarterback Ryan Spahr threw a 67-yard pass to a wide open Doug Whitlock to tie the game.

RBC is one of the favorites to win the state Non-Public III title and went on to score three more touchdowns.

Higgins completed 13-for-26 passes for 130 yards and one touchdown. Running back Bellissimo caught seven passes for 27 yards and rushed for 25. The Rams were held to just 31 yards rushing.
