The St. Joseph High School football team, ranked sixth in The Press Elite 11, exploded for 28 points in the second quarter and beat visiting St. Augustine Prep 35-0 Saturday in a Cape-Atlantic League interdivision game.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Gordon Hill (16 carries for 74 yards) opened the scoring with 1- and 5-yard touchdown runs. Quarterback Darryl Smith found Pat Casey for a 21-yard touchdown pass, and Smith passed to Max Valles for two points to make it 21-0.
St. Joseph scored again less than a minute later as Zach Grant returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown. Eli Pogue (6 carries for 54 yards) scored the Wildcats' final TD on a 2-yard run in the third quarter.
Smith connected on 4-of-7 passes for 55 yards. The Wildcats totaled 154 yards rushing.
Defensively, St. Joseph's Josh Moore had seven solo tackles and six assists, while Casey had five solos and six assists. Moore and Casey each had an interception, and Casey recovered two fumbles. Valles blocked a punt.
