Playoff berths will be finalized after next weekend's games. Many top contenders face pivotal games this weekend. The South Jersey Group IV picture is particularly interesting. Atlantic City, Oakcrest, Egg Harbor Township and Millville are in contention. Mainland Regional is also in contention but is off this weekend. Here is a preview of this weekend's games. St. Augustine Prep (0-6) at Millville (4-2)
7 p.m. today (1440-AM): Millville has won three straight and needs a win to boost its playoff hopes. The Thunderbolts are 3-0 at home. Millville quarterback Shaq Lee has seven touchdown passes. Thunderbolts running back Alquann Jones has scored eight touchdowns. St. Augustine comes off a 14-0 loss to Absegami.
Vineland (3-3) at Egg Harbor Township (4-2)
7 p.m. today (97.3 FM): EHT would remain in playoff contention with a win. The Eagles were off last week. EHT running back Stephan Thomas (98 carries for 374 yard) is one of the CAL's top players. Quarterback John Kopistecki has thrown for 825 yards and five touchdowns. Vineland has dropped three straight. Fighting Clan running back Brian Winchester has carried 104 times for 772 yards.
No. 1 Holy Spirit (6-0) at Ocean City (1-6)
7 p.m. today (98.7 FM): Spirit is No. 1 in The Press Elite 11. Donta Pollock leads the Spirit offense with 960 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. Joe Sarnese contributes on offense and defense with 48 tackles and four touchdown catches. Ocean City quarterback Logan McGuigan has thrown five touchdown passes, four of them to wide receiver Mike Coccodrilli.
Lower Cape May Reg. (4-2) at Buena Regional (2-5)
7 p.m. today: Lower has dropped two straight and needs a win to boost its playoff hopes. Quarterback Mike Mulligan is second in the CAL with eight touchdown passes. Buena running back Michael Haygood scored on 63- and 41-yard runs in the Chiefs' 35-13 loss to Mainland Regional last Friday.
Oakcrest (5-2) at Pleasantville (0-6)
7 p.m. today: Oakcrest can clinch its first winning season since 1998 with a victory. The Falcons have won four straight. Brandon Bell leads Oakcrest with 397 rushing yards. Linebacker Bill Fursin has a team-high 34 tackles. Pleasantville comes off a 43-0 loss to St. Joseph.
No. 7 Atlantic City (6-0) at Hammonton (4-2)
Noon Saturday: Both teams need a win to boost their playoff hopes and seeding. Atlantic City is No. 7 in the Elite 11. Vikings running back Radi Tolbert has the speed to score every time he touches the ball. Tolbert returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown in last week's 15-12 win over Vineland. Hammonton quarterback Tyler D'Amelio had his best game of the season in last week's 28-7 loss to Holy Spirit, completing 7-of-10 passes. Hammonton has won four straight against Atlantic City.
Jackson Liberty (3-4) at Pinelands Regional (4-2)
7 p.m. today: Pinelands has won two straight and needs to keep winning to enhance its playoff chances. Pinelands running back Matt McLain has rushed for 1,468 yards on 174 carries. Wide receiver Jake Hartman caught touchdown passes of 65- and 67-yards in last Friday's 41-40 win over Manchester. Pinelands has scored at last 40 points in three of its four wins.
Freehold Township (1-5) at Southern Regional (3-4)
7 p.m. today: Southern has lost two straight. Running back and defensive back Bill Shimko leads the Rams with eight touchdowns. Quarterback Eric Sullivan has thrown for 520 yards and four touchdowns.
No. 3 Lacey Township (7-0) at Neptune (4-2)
1 p.m. Saturday: Lacey is No. 3 in the Elite 11 and can take a step toward being the top seed in the South Jersey Group III playoffs. Jake Dabal leads the Lacey ground game with 64 carries for 478 yards. Linebacker Matt Uveges (50 tackles) sparks a defense that has not allowed more than a touchdown in a game this season.
Barnegat (4-2) at Red Bank (2-4)
1 p.m. Saturday: Barnegat is in contention for a first-round home playoff game in the South Jersey Group II bracket. Quarterback Nick SanGiacomo has thrown for 15 touchdowns and 1,322 yards. Mike DeTroia averages 18.31 yards per catch and has seven touchdown receptions.
West Jersey Football League
Woodrow Wilson (5-1) at Cumberland Regional (3-3)
7 p.m. today: Cumberland running backs Charles Wynder and Charles Clark both ran for more than 100 yards in last Friday's 36-0 win over Deptford. Linebacker Troy Eubanks continued his outstanding season with 14 tackles. Wilson comes off a 41-21 win over previously undefeated and perennial power Delsea Regional.
Schalick (4-2) at Wildwood (0-7)
7 p.m. today: This is Wildwood's final home game of the season. Schalick beat Pitman 28-6 last Friday.
