The Vineland High School football team had several long touchdown plays en route to a 44-27 victory over Ocean City in the season opener on Friday.
Isaiah Spencer scored twice on 60-yard carries in the Cape-Atlantic League interdivision game. RJ Morgan scored on 92- and 81-yard runs. One of Morgan's touchdowns was a kickoff return near the end of the first quarter.
Fighting Clan quarterback Tory Clark connected with Toure Douglas and Marcus Nelson for touchdowns. Douglas made a sliding catch for a 23-yard TD in the second quarter. Nelson ran for the two-point conversion and caught a 64-yard pass in the third quarter.
Ocean City wide receiver Chris Turner caught two TD passes (25 and 15 yards) from sophomore quarterback Chris Gabor. Turner's first touchdown came on a 4th-and-16 play in the first quarter.
