Why this game is special: These schools, located a few miles part on the Garden State Parkway, have met ever since Barnegat fielded its first varsity team in 2006. This is their first Thanksgiving meeting. Their games always have been spirited contests. The last two meetings were decided in overtime.

Two points kept the Barnegat High School football team from a winning season last year. The Bengals finished 4-6, losing to Pinelands Regional 20-19 and to Jackson Liberty 22-21. Those defeats served as motivation in the offseason.

BARNEGAT-Southern Regional High School improved to 4-for-4 in the "Battle of the Bay," using an offensive explosion in the second half to beat Barnegat 40-6 in the schools' annual Thanksgiving Day football game.
What makes this game special: This is a new rivalry. Dubbed "the Battle of the Bay" these teams began to play in 2006. Southern has won all three matchups. Barnegat students used to attend Southern.
