The Oakcrest High School football team beat host Winslow
Township 35-19 Saturday in a consolation game for its first victory
of the season. Falcons quarterback Danny Smith scored on touchdown
runs of 16, 5 and 13 yards on Saturday. Smith passed to LaShawn
Elliott for a 28-yard score. Smith also lateralled to LaDarrell
Dixon on a 49-yard touchdown play.
Jim Cooper connected for three extra points to claim the school
record for most kicking points in a career as Mainland Regional
defeated visiting Oakcrest 27-0 in a Cape-Atlantic League American
Conference football game Friday.
St. Joseph High School football running backs Rocco Ordille and
Cody Sampson scored two touchdowns apiece as the undefeated
Wildcats beat winless Oakcrest 39-0 Saturday in a Cape-Atlantic
League American Conference game.
Ismail Showell did not receive a single NCAA Division I football scholarship offer coming out of Oakcrest High School, but Saturday he took the field for 11th-ranked West Virginia University in its season opener.
After visiting Penn State University on Tuesday and meeting with coach Bill O’Brien, Oakcrest High School rising senior Brandon Bell reaffirmed his verbal commitment to play football for the Nittany Lions in 2013.
