Cory Damiana


Damiana bounced back in the first round of wrestlebacks with a second-period pin over Kittatinny's Garrett Armstrong. Damiana built an 8-1 lead before ending the bout in 3:07.

Damiana, who is headed to Hofstra University on a scholarship, saw his season end in the next round with a 6-4 loss to Dominic Carfagno of St. Joseph-Montvale. Carfagno broke a 4-4 tie with a takedown in the final minute.

Damiana reached the pre-quarterfinals with a 12-6 decision over Bound Brook's Aaron Saavedra. Damiana snapped a 6-6 tie with a reversal and two-point near-fall in the second period to take control of the bout.

Damiana fell into the wrestlebacks after getting pinned in the second period by Christian Brothers Academy's Mike Oxley. After a scoreless first period, Oxley locked Damiana in a cradle for a pin 17 seconds into the second at 2:17.

Damiana’s road to Atlantic City: Won his third District 32 title and finished second in Region 8.

Back points: Damiana is making his third trip to states. Damiana faces Bound Brook’s Aaron Saavedra in the prelims with the winner moving on to face Region 6 champ Mike Oxley of Christian Brothers Academy, the bottom bracket No. 3 seed.
