Kali dropped into the wrestlebacks after dropping a 16-3 major decision against Don Bosco Prep's Zack Chakonis. Chakonis dominated the match, though Kali did score a reversal in the third period.

Kali was on the losing end of an exciting consolation match against Moorestown's Tyreek Smith, losing 7-6. Kali took a 6-4 lead on a takedown with :36 left in regulation. Smith escaped with :15 remaining, then earned the win with a takedown at the edge of the mat with just two seconds to go.

Friday

Kali advanced in the preliminaries with a 1-0 decision over Brearly's Saverio Salcfas. Kali scored the only point of the bout on a second-period escape.

Kali earned another win in the pre-quarterfinals with a 6-2 overtime decision over Hamilton East's River Ulrich. Kali forced overtime with a takedown midway through the third period, then earned a takedown and two-point near fall in overtime.

Kali’s road to Atlantic City: Finished second in District 31 and second in Region 8.

Back points: Kali is making his second trip to states and looking to make his way onto the podium for the first time. Kali opens the state tournament with a prelim against Brearley’s Saverio Salcfas.
