Wilhelm lost in the consolation semifinals to Delbarton's Dan Reed after he was pineed at the 5 minute, 15 second mark.

But he cam back later to defeat Matt Barber of Westfield 6-4 to win fifth place.


Wilhelm's dreams of a state title ended in the quarterfinals with a second-period pin loss to Clearview's John VanBrill. After a scoreless first period, VanBrill caught Wilhelm in a cradle and pinned him at 3:00.

Wilhelm advanced in the consolations with a 4-2 overtime victory over Bound Brook's Sean Glasgow. Wilhelm scored the winning points on a takedown with 15 seconds remaining in the first overtime.

Wilhelm advanced to the consolation semifinals with a 6-3 decision over Brick Memorial's Alec Donovan.


Wilhelm turned in an impressive performance in the pre-quarterfinals with a second-period pin over Manny Dominguez, of North Bergen. Wilhelm led 2-0 after the first period, but turned and pinned Dominguez at 3:11.

Wilhelm’s road to Atlantic City: Won his third District 24 title and his first Region 6 title.

Back points: Wilhelm is making his second career trip to states and his first since he was a freshman and finished eighth in the state. Wilhelm opens with bottom bracket No. 6 seed D.J. Mele of Cherokee. The winner would likely face second-seeded John VanBrill of Clearview Regional.
