Atlantic City provides a rat’s nest of options when it comes to bars. Everything from the hippest casino lounges to the most basic old-man bars can be found here. A town well known for being a bit gritty, it provides some nice options when it comes to dive bars.

One of the best of those is BullShots. Located in the heart of town along Pacific Avenue, BullShots (otherwise known as The BS Bar) belongs exactly where it is.

A friend and I stopped in on a recent Friday at around midnight. The long, dimly lit bar is just cozy enough not to feel either too small or too big. Though it is a fully stocked bar and one could conceivably order any concoction of their choice, to me it just didn’t seem right to start messing around with hipster microbrews or anything involving herbs or complex mixology. The beauty of a place like this is its simplicity. It’s your classic “beer and a shot” type of bar, and that is exactly what we ordered.

The crowd here can include anyone from bachelor parties to businessmen. The staff is noticeably friendly and welcoming and does a great job keeping the vibe upbeat. Music here on the night we visited leaned toward old-school hip-hop, something that is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, so I was onboard with that from the moment we arrived.

Oh — I nearly forgot to mention one of the most interesting facts about BullShots — it’s attached to one of the most popular strip clubs in town, Bare Exposure. And not only is it right next door, but it’s owned by the same people, which means there is quite a bit of cross mingling going on. That’s right — at BullShots you may actually have the opportunity to hang out one-on-one with the dancers while they are clothed, which comes in particularly handy in case you are one of those oddballs that finds it somewhat awkward to make casual conversation with a fully nude human being while each of you attempts to pretend that there is nothing unusual about this particular social situation.

Also, since Bare Exposure does not have a liquor license, you can conveniently purchase your beer over at BullShots and bring it right to your table, should you choose to explore the temptations that await at Bare Exposure. Everybody wins.

While some folks may be initially put off by the concept of a bar with a strip club next door to it, one thing that surprised us was just how mixed the crowd was. Couples, groups of girls and guys all shared the space, each having what appeared to be the time of their lives. Gone are the days when the presence of a strip club meant nothing but a steady parade of shifty-eyed, Old-Spiced loners, all fresh from their parents’ basements looking to feed their darkest perversions. Today it seems the doors that were once forbidden are open to anyone looking to have a good time. And that’s what just about everyone at BullShots was doing that night.
