Villanova's Matt Szczur went 5-for-5 in a 17-19 win over Temple on Tuesday, but even more remarkable was Szczur hitting for the cycle.
He hit two doubles in his first two at-bats, a triple in his next and then a two-run home run. All that was left was the easiest of the hits - a single.
With that he poked one through the right side in the seventh inning to complete the feat.
Szczur leads the team hitting .439 (69-for-157) with 33 RBIs, 37 runs and 10 stolen bases in 14 attempts.
Szczur is a redshirt sophomore on the baseball team, but can be drafted this year because he is a junior in academic standing. Scouting services are beginning to take notice of him.
While I was at a game a few weeks ago, there were at least 10 scouts in attendance. Recently, PnR Scouting services released their top 300 prospects. Szczur made his debut on the list at No. 263.
Szczur has repeatedly said he doesn't know what he is going to do when regarding next season. All of that depends on where is drafted and what he is offered. Szczur is split between starting his baseball career or sticking around and playing another year of football with the Wildcats.
