Countryside Garden Club invites the public to a free lecture on Landscaping with Native Plants led by Bruce Crawford, Director of Rutgers Gardens and adjunct professor in Landscape Architecture on Thursday, September 6th at 1pm at the WheatonArts Event Center, 1000 Village Drive, Millville, NJ.   Mr. Crawford will discuss how the use of native plants are beneficial to wildlife along with being economical for the gardener due to their lower water, fertilizer and maintenance needs.  He will also address how to include native plants in an attractive way in the landscape.  After the lecture Citizens United to Protect the Maurice River and its Tributaries (CU Maurice River) will lead a tour of the WheatonArts Nature Trail highlighting native plants.  Light refreshments will be served.


General admission to WheatonArts is not required to attend the lecture or the nature walk. The Countryside Garden Club meets the first Thursday of each month March through December at various locations with the purpose to further the interests of gardening in the public and private setting.  Conservation and preservation of the natural environment and wildlife are also goals of the group.  The events and activities sponsored by the Countryside Garden Club support community efforts including the awarding of annual scholarship at Cumberland County College and the maintenance of the Blue Star Garden at the NJ Veterans’ Memorial Home.  New members are always welcome.  For information on membership and this and other upcoming activities please contact Paula at (856) 364-9165 or email
