The Atlantic City Free Public Library will hold a “Food for Fines” drive Nov. 25-Dec. 7. Atlantic City Library members with overdue materials can make a non-perishable food donation at the Main Library or Richmond Branch Library in lieu of paying a fine. For each non-perishable item donated, the accrued fines for one overdue item will be waived.

The donated food will be given to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey-Southern Branch. The FoodBank is in need of canned items such as soup, stew, vegetables, chili, meats and tuna, plus peanut butter, jelly, baby foods and formula, spaghetti sauce, applesauce and dry soup. Donations such as diapers, laundry detergent, soap, shampoo and other personal hygiene products will be accepted. The library will also accept donations from those who don’t have fines but wish to contribute to the FoodBank.
