After a year of ups and downs, and a lengthy recording process, the Kenny Young Band is finally releasing its first seven-song EP on March 15.

The six-man band is fronted by singer-songwriter Kenny Young, of Tuckahoe, and includes a lineup of new members, including Young's son, Kenny Young IV - or K4, for short.

"We've had a year like you wouldn't believe," Young said. "We've had record label (delays), and changes in the lineup, but now we're ready to do this, we've got a launch date."

The local band plays country and southern rock originals, genres that Young has always loved, although he is from the northeast.

"I was born and raised in Tuckahoe," Young said. "I have always just loved Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, The Outlaws - and (playing southern rock) just fell into what I did."

Dante DeFeo, of Vineland, has been the longest standing member of the Kenny Young Band, at two years and counting.

"I've never had more fun then I've had in the past two years of my career," DeFeo said. "There've been ups and downs, but it's been a really positive and exciting experience."

DeFeo is a musician by trade, and now plays lead guitar for the Kenny Young Band. Although his background, DeFeo said, is more akin to the Allman Brothers, he said his jazz and blues background meshed well with the southern rock sound of the Kenny Young Band.

"Kenny is pure southern rock," DeFeo said. "For me to make transition into his band was seamless."

Both Young and DeFeo have recorded music before, but the EP will be a first for the band.

The CD release party will be at Levari's Seafood and American Grill and will feature openers from Millville, Cheezy and the Crackers, who play original reggae and hip hop songs.

"It should be a very good mixer that night," Young said "Between reggae and southern rock - when does that ever happen?"

The band is excited to finally release the EP that has been so long in the making. In addition, DeFeo said the band will debut a few new songs that aren't on the record, including one he wrote over the winter.

"I'm tickled to death, I can't wait," DeFeo said. "It's going to be a wonderful experience. We're excited to play out again, and were excited to see our fans again."
