Holy Spirit advanced to the second round with a 61-6 win over Morris Catholic. Ahmad Brown paced the Spartans with three scores within 3minutes in the second period to put the game away. Local speedster Devon Lee broke a 62 yard run for a TD and then a 10 yarder in the fourth quarter. (The former Brigantine Ram had a banner week scoring 6 touchdown in the JV game on Monday, including 4 TD runs of 40 or more yards. Spirit JVs beat St. Joe 52-36 in a shootout at OK Corral)

Eliijah Grey scored an early touchdown and was rested the last three quarters of the game. (Gray was selected as one of the state’s top performers the previous week. He rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns and threw a td pass in Sprit’s 28-7 victory over Kingsway.)

#2 Spirit will play the #3 seed Hudson Catholic on Friday night at Ed Byrnes Stadium.. Hudson beat Gloucester Catholic 42-0. A Spirit win will take them to the state championship in a probable rematch with St. Joe of Hammonton.

Jada Byers scored six first half touchdowns to spark St. Joe to a 56-6 whipping of Immaculate Conception. St. Joe will host Immaculata. The Spartans beat Holy Cross 55-27 to reach the semifinals.

1965-Mike Powers and Jim King won the Doubles championship of the Brigantine City Beach Patrol. Powers was also the singles champion.

1992- Abby Kuhl was named to the junior Women’ National Rowing team.

1998- Freshman Bobby Gragg, former St. Joe standout under Paul Sacco, will start on special teams for John Hopkins University.

1998- Tricia Ferri and Kim Burns chalked up victories for Holy Spirit’s tennis team in a 5-0 win over EHT. Spirit heads into the playoffs against Sterling with an 11-1 record.

1999-Blake Morgan scored 23 points and Wayne Nelson 20 leading Holy Spirit to a 73-52 opening night win over Ocean City. Morgan, a senior from Brigantine, who hit an amazing 52% from three point range last year, was 5-7 from distance and 4-4 from the line. Jim Crilley controlled the boards for Spirit.

2005-Coach Joe Maguire’s St. Augustine freshmen eight with locals Max Ryan, Colin Morton, Alex Bielous, and Jack Widmann took third place in the New Jersey Scholastic Rowing Championship.

2007-WilliamWashington led the 2007 Spartans to a 12-0 record and the state Non-Public III title. As a senior, Washington rushed for 2,001 yards and scored 226 points. For comparison St. Joe’s Jada Byers currently has rushed for 1,528 yards and scored 186 points with two games remaining.

2013-The Lady Spartans second eight also finished first in the Philadelphia, NJ State, and county crowns. Sally Widmann, Erin Coffman, and Rachel Klaiss were gold medalists on the elite crew.

2015-Brigantine’s Mike Sluzenski will be inducted into the Atlantic High Hall of Fame on May 17, 2015. Michael is a member of the Class of 1964. He is among the greatest wrestlers in Viking history. Sluzenski was the District and Regional Champion in 1964 and finished fourth in the State Championships. He was also a member of the ACHS 1963 South Jersey Football Championship team and is a member of the Viking Rowing Club Hall of Fame.

2016-Paige Sofield and Kristy Goff finished 2nd and 4th respectively to lead the Holy Spirit cross country team to a win over Pleasantville and Lower Cape May in a dual meet.
