Eighth annual Paddle Out donates $21,000 to Lt. Andy Boyt Memorial Fund

The Paddle Out's check is presented to the Lt. Andy Boyt Memorial Fund

The eighth annual Paddle Out to remember fallen Cape May firefighter Lt. Andy Boyt was the largest ever.

The funds raised are provided to the Lt. Andy Boyt Memorial Fund, a 501(c)(3) charity that supports the National Fallen Firefighters Fund and individuals in Cape May who may need assistance.

Michelle Boyt, chairperson, stated “this is the largest amount of contributions we have raised.” The total was $21,000. Included in this amount was $3,680 in Paddle Out shirts that were sold by Flying Fish Studio, which donated a portion from every shirt sold to the fund.

Boyt stated “that the partnership with the Flying Fish and their generosity over the past eight years has greatly assisted the fund.”

The Paddle Out starts with many individuals paddling out on surfboards and forming a circle in the ocean. They then toss a flower into the water in remembrance of Lt. Boyt. The event continues with a spaghetti dinner. Chinese auction, raffles and more to raise funds for the Memorial Fund. This year more than 250 individuals participated and several others provided sponsorships.

If anyone is interested in making a tax-deductible contribution to the Lt. Andy Boyt Memorial Fund, they can send a check to 1030 Ohio Ave., Cape May, NJ 08204.
