EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP  ̶ Nineteen Egg Harbor Township High School graduates proudly sported Honor Cords around their necks in addition to their caps and gowns during their commencement ceremony on Thursday evening, June 21, at Bruce W. Wohlrab Sports Complex at Egg Harbor Township High School.

Egg Harbor Township High School gave military Honor Cords and certificates of recognition to graduating seniors who have committed to serving in the military. The program was spearheaded by Jennifer Leonetti, EHTHS guidance counselor, who also acts as the high school military coordinator. She is in contact with the local recruiters of the military and schedules ASVAB test for students who are interested in the military.

Following is a list of the graduates and the branch of the military they are enlisted in:

“The cords are a way for us to honor our high school graduates who have committed to the military,” said Kimberly Dempsey, EHTHS media clerk. “The certificates are signed by Frank Formica from the Atlantic County Board of Freeholders. These young men and women have made a decision to put themselves in harm's way to secure our freedoms and way of life,” she added.

Dempsey took over Military Power of Pride for the high school two years ago. Every year, Power of Pride hosts a veteran’s breakfast, collects donations to send care packages to local overseas military members during the holiday season and awards scholarships to two most-improved students. The scholarships are provided by the Somers Point AMVETS.
