Welcome to Historic Galloway, The Current’s weekly feature that looks back through Galloway Township history. Each week we get a chance to learn or reminisce courtesy of Sarah Snow, librarian for the Galloway Township Historical Society, who shares information and early photos online and in print.
These folks are "taking the waters" of Smith's Neutral Waters Health Resort along with Charles Smith himself. Smith continued in Egg Harbor City a tradition that continues today in Germany — soaking in certain bodies of water for one's health. Smith reshaped the end of Landing Creek into a serpentine waterway of varying depths and built a resort beside it. This photo is from about 1920 and yes, the ladies are wearing wool swimsuits.
