The Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union Social Action Committee presented a $500 check Jan. 25 to Gabriel Ruiz, founder and CEO of K9 Warriors Inc., to offset the cost of training service dogs for combat veterans.

K9 Warriors Inc. is a nonprofit organization that provides service dogs to wounded veterans at no cost to the veteran. All training, food, veterinary visits and other expenses are covered by the charity, according to organizers.

The veteran does all of the training with the dog to guarantee that the veterans and dog will bond, according to a press release.

The donations came from credit union employees who wear jeans on Fridays.

“I’m so appreciative and honored for what the credit union donated to our organization,” Ruiz stated in a press release.

Ruiz, his staff and the board of directors are all combat veterans, the release said.
