This week's Middle Township Middle School Athletes of the Week come from cross county, boys soccer, girls soccer and field hockey.
The cross country athlete of the week is Luke Seddon. Luke is a two-year member of our team and plans to continue running cross country in high school next year. Luke is a quiet leader on the team. As the year progressed so did Luke’s running due to hard training in practice. Toward the middle of the season it was obvious Luke was hitting peak condition. He became one of the team’s faster runners and gave the team valuable team points in meets. Congratulations Luke and best of luck in high school.
The boys soccer athlete of the week is Matthew Sgrignioli. Matthew scored a great goal on Monday during the team's 3-2 loss to Alder. He played a great game and has been solid all season for the Panthers. He has worked very hard to help his teammates and to improve. Matthew has been an integral part of the offense this season and has been a big part of the team's success.
Cassidy Robb is this week's student-athlete for the middle school girls soccer team. Cassidy, a captain and a third-year player, solidifies the Lady Panthers' defense as a fullback. Her skill and deep understanding of the game, coupled with her athleticism, allow her to shut down any attack. Cassidy's optimistic approach to her studies enables her to be a leader in school as well. She has the drive and the perfect attitude to be a complete success in whatever she pursues.
The field hockey athlete of the week is Sydnie Hunter. Sydnie made several big stops on defense against Millville and Teitelman. She was also a strong defender on defensive corners and was aggressive in pursuing the ball. She has a strong slap shot while in motion and often creates opportunities for the forward line and midfield to break away from the opponent. Sydnie was key in the rotation of our defense. She has a great work ethic, positive attitude and love of the sport.
