OCEAN CITY — A celebration of flight is coming to the city, as the Municipal Airport plans its annual Airport Festival and the next day, the Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow takes place.
The Airport Festival will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the airport, Bay Avenue and 26th Street. The annual event will include a ground display of unusual aircraft ranging from World War II planes to classics and Warbirds and a parachute jump by Team Fastrax.
Also on Saturday will be the Parachute Pyrotechnic Show, in which the highly trained and specially licensed members of Team Fastrax will exit aircraft 6,000 above the city's beach and Boardwalk. Projectile pyrotechnics will be ignited and flown in formation. The jump will begin at 8 p.m. with a landing on the Seventh Street Beach. The show will be viewable along the Boardwalk.
The festival also will include the Ocean City Board of Realtors' Bubble Mania, its popular fundraiser. Bubble Mania is a day of family activities that raises funds for the Ocean City Historical Museum. Kids of all ages will be able to enjoy fun bubble activities. Food, cupcakes and beverages will be available for sale. To find Bubble Mania, follow the endless flow of bubbles.
On Sunday, Sept. 15, the Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow will include stunt pilots, aerobateic champions and military demonstrations. The show will begin at 1 p.m. and will be best viewed from Sixth Street to 14th Street along the beach and Boardwalk.
