AtlantiCare President and CEO Lori Herndon will be the 2018 commencement speaker for Atlantic Cape Community College.

The community college graduation will take place May 17 at the Mays Landing Campus.

As the leader of the hospital, Herndon oversees more than 5,500 employees and 900 physician and providers in five counties.

Herndon, of Brigantine, joined AtlantiCare in 1983 as a staff nurse in AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit and has served in executive roles for the system since 2007.

In addition to her work at the hospital, Herndon serves on the boards of the Southern Shore Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Stockton University Foundation, the Atlantic City Police Foundation and the Atlantic County Economic Alliance.

She is secretary of the New Jersey Hospital Association board of directors and was chairwoman of the American Heart Association’s 2010 Southern New Jersey Spring Start! Heart Walk and its 2012 Go Red for Women Luncheon.

In 2013, Herndon was named to the Atlantic County Women’s Hall of Fame, and Stockton University’s William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy honored her with its “Distinctive Alumni Leadership Award.”
