Picture of Sergeant James Dickerson in 1943 while protecting our shores in Beth Page, NY. He arrived in England in 1944, to participate in the invasion of Normandy. When transferred to Patton’s 3rd Army, he fought in campaigns in Ardennes, Central Europe, and Rhineland.
In Luxembourg in 1945, he came in direct fire from machine guns and advanced alone through fire to approach the enemy. Throwing a hand grenade into the machine gun emplacement and killed all but one of the enemy gunners, then used rifle fire on him. Awarded Silver Star in 1945 for aggressiveness and courage under fire.
