Murphy Writing Seminars’ annual Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway will be held at Seaview resort in January.

Organizers of the Winter Prose & Poetry Getaway are making scholarships available to attend the January writer’s conference.

Six scholarships are being offered for first-time participants to the workshops for writers, poets, songwriters and screenwriters, which will be held Jan. 15 to 18 at the Stockton Seaview Hotel in Galloway Township.

One of the new scholarships is the Elke Hirsh Music Award, for a songwriter between the ages of 21 and 30. The award celebrates the life of Elke Hirsh, a popular piano teacher who enjoyed a busy career with her trio, Elke & Friends.

A screenwriting scholarship funded by Murphy Writing of Stockton University is available for a first-time Winter Getaway participant age 18 or older.

Also available are the first- and second-place Toni Brown Scholarship awards and the first- and second-place Jan-ai scholarships.

The application deadline is Nov. 15 for the Toni Brown Memorial Scholarship, and Nov. 30 for the Jan-ai Scholarship, the Elke Hirsh Music Award and Screenwriting Scholarship.
