An Atlantic City man was arrested Tuesday after an officer was injured while chasing him, city police said.
Officers responded at 5:12 p.m. to the 4000 block of Ventnor Avenue for a report of a man with a handgun and a large group fight.
Officer James Miltenberger arrived on the scene and saw a man who matched the description of the armed man, police said. The officer tried to stop Kenneth Landis Jr., 19, but Landis ran away, police said. During the chase, Officer Miltenberger was injured, prompting Detective Howard Mason to stop and check on him, police said. Landis fled down an alley, but later surrendered to Mason, police said.
While searching the area for a discarded weapon, detectives found an 18-year-old city man in the rear of a house on Annapolis Avenue, police said. The man had a small laceration to his side and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus. Miltenberger also was taken to the hospital and later released.
Landis was charged with obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct. He was released on a summons with a future court date.
