HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — A major township intersection will be closed during daytime hours for several weeks starting Wednesday, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
The closings are due to a project to improve drainage and make structural repairs.
Route 40 between Farragut Avenue and River Drive will close from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. The daytime closing will continue for several weeks, Monday through Thursday, the NJDOT said.
Contractor IEW Construction is scheduled to make drainage maintenance improvements and install new pipe, manholes and inlets.
Route 40/Main Street westbound detour:
Motorists will be directed to bear left at the fork for River Drive
Continue through the light on River Drive
Turn right onto Harding Highway/Route 50 northbound
Turn left onto Route 40 westbound/Main Street
Route 40/Main Street eastbound detour:
Motorists will turn right onto Harding Highway/Route 50 southbound
Go left onto River Drive
Bear left at the fork for Route 40 eastbound
Local businesses will remain open, and residents will have access during the project, the DOT said.
Advance notice of traffic pattern changes will be posted on message signs and road closing signs. The project schedule may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists can check NJDOT’s traffic information website 511nj.org for real-time travel information.
