Tim Greene, of Ocean City, trims trees along Emerson Avenue, in Atlantic City, contracted to work for Atlantic City Electric in an ongoing maintenance program to help prevent power outages, Wednesday April 23, 2014.

In recognition of National Electrical Safety Month, Atlantic City Electric is offering tips this month to help keep those working with or around electricity safe.

Stay away from downed wires. Call the Atlantic City Electric emergency outage number 800-833-7476.

Call 811 before digging so that underground utility lines can be marked before construction.

Teach children about the dangers of electric facilities such as substations, transmission towers and pad-mounted transformers, also known as green boxes.

Look overhead before starting a project. Carry long and tall items parallel to the ground.

Avoid overhead lines when trimming trees or working near electrical connections to your property.
