LOWER TOWNSHIP — A Cape May woman was issued a motor vehicle summons for careless driving after she ran off the road and caused a chain reaction that damaged two vehicles and a residence, police said in a news release.

The crash occurred Friday on Seashore Road just south of Tabernacle Road in the Erma section of the township.

A red Mitsubishi hatchback was southbound on Seashore Road when it left the road and struck a parked vehicle, which hit another vehicle, and that vehicle hit a residence, police said.

Rita Tester, 77, of the North Cape May section of Lower Township, was found inside the Mitsubishi hatchback, which had heavy front-end damage, police said. She was evaluated and taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

A township code enforcement official found the residence to be still habitable, the release said.

The Erma Fire Department, AtlantiCare Medics and Lower Township Rescue assisted at the scene, according to the release.
