VINELAND — A Bridgeton man who police said was driving while intoxicated was charged with assault by auto following a two-car crash last week on West Landis Avenue, police said Tuesday.
Francisco Bautista-Bautista, 21, was previously charged with DWI, reckless driving and operating a vehicle without a license in the crash that injured Joseph Grassi, 40, of Morris Plains, on April 9.
Grassi was taken to Inspira Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. Police said they recently added the assault-by-auto charge against Bautista-Bautista for causing serious injuries while under the influence of alcohol.
Bautista-Bautista was released on a summons.
Police said Bautista-Bautista was driving west near the overpass of Route 55 when the crash occurred. Grassi was issued a summons for improperly merging onto a highway, police said. — Brian Ianieri
