MOUNT LAUREL TOWNSHIP — A woman fatally stabbed her mother inside their apartment at a southern New Jersey complex, authorities said.

A motive for the slaying remained under investigation.

Marisa Rivera, 23, faces murder and weapons charges in the death of 56-year-old Denise DeNapoli, Burlington County prosecutors said. It was not known whether Rivera had retained an attorney.

Mount Laurel police found DeNapoli’s body Friday morning at the Ramblewood Village apartment complex. They went there after DeNapoli failed to show up for work and her concerned co-workers contacted authorities.

Rivera is accused of stabbing her mother about 3:30 a.m. Friday and fleeing the apartment. She was found Friday night at a township hotel.

It was not known whether anyone else was in the apartment when the stabbing occurred.
