A male pit bull found tied to a tree Friday on a nature trail in Millville was still at the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter and Cumberland County SPCA in Vineland on Wednesday.

The primarily tan pit bull, about a year old, was brought by Millville animal control to the shelter, said Kelly Serbeck, the facility’s administrator.

The dog has been given the shelter name Orman. He weighs between 40 and 45 pounds and has not been neutered or microchipped, Serbeck said.

Orman will be held at the shelter until at least March 9, Serbeck said.

On that day, shelter officials will decide whether to hold the dog longer at the request of Millville animal control, to put the dog up for adoption, send him to another facility, or put him down, if he is found to be aggressive.

“He hasn’t been vaccinated yet. There has been no health exam,” said Serbeck, who added the dog will not be allowed to be adopted without being vaccinated first.

Anyone who knows who the dog belongs to or is interested in adopting him or any dog, should contact the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter at 856-691-1500 or visit the website southjerseyregionalanimalshelter.org, where emails can be sent and adoption questionnaires can be filled out.
