NJ Transit accident

One person was killed and another taken to the hospital after a train struck a car on the tracks in Hammonton.

The victims in a crash involving an Atlantic City rail line train that killed one man and injured another have been identified by NJ Transit.

Santos Alverio Jr., 66, of Hammonton, was killed Friday when the 2007 gray Ford Focus he was driving was struck by a train heading to Atlantic City, NJ Transit said. The car was reportedly on the tracks at the Line Street grading in Hammonton.

George Alverio, 61, of Millville, was a passenger in the car. He was injured in the crash and was airlifted to Shore Medical Center in Somers Point.

None of the 120 riders and crew members on the train was injured, according to NJ Transit.

The case is still under investigation.
