GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — A local resident was charged with driving under the influence after hitting another car Monday evening, township police said.

At 5:15 p.m., a small SUV going north on South New York Road passed a series of cars in a no-passing lane and hit the driver’s side of a car turning left off South New York Road and onto Biscayne Avenue, police said.

That car’s driver, Michael Cramer, 49, of Galloway Township, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Mainland Campus with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

Kyle Francis, 32, of Galloway Township, was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and improper passing, police said. More charges are pending the investigation, police said.

South New York Road was cut to a single lane in the area of the accident for about an hour.
