School buses parked at the Egg Harbor Township school district transportation office

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Both drivers and 13 students were taken to hospitals Wednesday afternoon after a school bus collided with a vehicle on the Black Horse Pike, police said.

About 3 p.m., a Chevrolet Impala, driven by Victor Jacinto, 50, of Bridgeton, was traveling west on the Black Horse Pike in the left lane and turning into the intersection with Fernwood Avenue, police said.

The school bus, driven by Debbie Garbutt, 58, of Egg Harbor Township, approached the intersection from Fernwood. The front end of the bus struck the driver side of Jacinto’s car, and the impact caused both vehicles to veer off the road.

Police said all injuries were minor.

Garbutt was issued a motor vehicle summons for careless driving and failure to observe a traffic signal.

The Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad, the Hamilton Township Ambulance Squad and AtlantiCare Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.

The crash is being investigated by Officers Joe Griffiths and Jim Ludwig of the Traffic Safety Unit.
