GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — An Egg Harbor City man was arrested late Saturday and charged with breaking into Assumption Regional Catholic School and taking a “classroom folder,” police said.
Police responded to a burglar alarm at the school at 11:24 p.m. and found John Thomas, 62, standing by his vehicle in the school parking lot, they said.
Officers discovered Thomas was in possession of the folder after speaking with him, and video surveillance showed him entering the school, police said.
Lt. Christopher McGinty said the papers in the folder were random paperwork from a teacher’s classroom.
McGinty said the man has a history of mental illness and run-ins with the police, and the break-in appeared to be random.
Thomas is charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief. He was released on a summons.
