MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — A local man was indicted Tuesday on murder charges in a Jan. 10 stabbing at the Country Motel in Rio Grande.
Herbert Tozer, 51, of Rio Grande, was initially charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other offenses, but the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office added the murder charge after the victim died later that month.
Tozer stabbed Robert Niemezua, 45, also of Rio Grande, in the neck at the motel on Route 47, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Tozer was arrested later that day without incident at a home in the Burleigh section of the township.
He faces a sentence of 30 years to life in prison if convicted of murder.
A grand jury also indicted Tozer on aggravated assault, hindering apprehension and weapons charges.
