Red Dawn

The dawn sky is boiling red Thursday in Cape May County. The old saying ‘red sky at night, sailors delight; red sky at morning, sailors take warning’ was validated as Thursday night’s forecast called for rain and snow. See Press Meteorologist Joe Martucci’s forecast for Friday on C6.

A beautiful red dawn will lead to showers and then snow in the area tonight between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The snow will then fall for a few hours, according to Press Meteorologist Joe Martucci. It will have a hard time sticking to the roads and will likely just accumulate on grassy and colder surfaces. A coating to an inch is expected. Even though the snow will be low impact, it does occur during the morning rush. So give yourself a few extra minutes traveling on the slick roads.

More importantly will likely be the re-freeze that also develops during the morning rush. Temperatures will fall below freezing during the morning and stay that way for the rest of the day. Wet puddles and surfaces likely freeze if not treated. However, gusty winds and sunshine for the rest of the day will help to mitigate that.
