STAFFORD TOWNSHIP — Police arrested two suspects linked to six robberies in New Jersey and New York, according to the Stafford Township police Facebook page.
Police arrested Sergey Demidenko, 38, of Brooklyn, New York, and James Boccanfuso, 41, of Manhattan, New York, on Tuesday. The banks the pair robbed included the Stafford Township Chase Bank on Jan. 18, a Galloway Wells Fargo Bank on Jan. 24 and the attempted robbery of a Manahawkin Wells Fargo Bank on Jan. 26.
Stafford Township Police Department Detective Drew Smith and Detective Sergeant David Johnson learned Demidenko entered each of the six banks wearing a zip-up hoodie, dark aviator sunglasses and passed a robbery note demanding cash, according to police. Buccanfuso helped plan the robberies and worked as the getaway driver.
After a botched robbery at a Manahawkin Wells Fargo Bank on Jan. 26, surveillance captured the incidents and police learned Demidenko had fled the scene in a 2012 model Jeep Grand Cherokee with an unknown New York license plate.
The Jeep had been in an Atlantic City parking garage and police were able to identify the license plate and track the suspects’ activities. On Tuesday, Stafford police traveled to Manhattan and, with the assistance of the NYPD, were able to place both men into custody. Demidenko and Buccanfuso were turned over to the FI and were lodged in jail pending federal bank robbery charges, according to the Facebook post.
