Car and pedestrian crash in Hammonton

Hammonton police blocked the northbound lane of Bellevue Avenue for 30 minutes Thursday after a pedestrian was struck in a crosswalk at Second Street.

HAMMONTON — An Egg Harbor Township woman was struck Thursday by an SUV in the crosswalk at South Second Street and Bellevue Avenue, police said.

Alisia Ramirez, 64, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s satellite emergency department in Hammonton with head and back injuries, Detective Cpl. John Panarello said.

The driver of the SUV fled the scene when the accident occurred at 5:10 p.m., Panarello said.

The police were still seeking the driver Thursday evening, Panarello said.

The northbound lane of Belleveue Avenue was closed for about 30 minutes. Police directed northbound drivers onto Egg Harbor Road.
