Dr.DeSantis, Mark E., - 75, of Moscow, , passed away after a brief illness on September 12, 2017 in Moscow, Idaho, where he had lived for 39 years. Born in Vineland, New Jersey on May 9, 1942, he was the eldest of seven children born to Dr. O.J. and Ellice DeSantis, formerly of Ocean City, New Jersey. After graduating with the 1959 class of Holy Spirit High School in Atlantic City, Mark received his B.S. from Villanova University in 1963, his M.S. from Creighton University in 1965 and his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1969. He was a full professor of neuroanatomy at Georgetown University for several years before relocating to the University of Idaho for the next twenty-seven years until his retirement in 2005. He was Director of the WWAMI Program for UI for many years. WWAMI is a cooperative program with the University of Washington School of Medicine where students residing in the Northwestern United States have access to a quality medical school program while completing their foundation phase of medical school in their home states. Prior to retirement, Mark had several experiments accepted by NASA for the Atlantis space shuttle missions. Mark is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gail Chambers DeSantis; a son, Michael K. DeSantis (Erin) and one grandson, Liam. His surviving siblings include Martha Lawson of Arizona; Marion Ament of Idaho; Dr. Marshall DeSantis of Florida; and Marne DeSantis of Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Ellen DeSantis and Margaret DeSantis.
