Peterson, Charles William Sr., - age 84, of Ventnor, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018. Born on May 8, 1933 in Atlantic City, he lived in Ventnor for the majority of his 84 years. He graduated from St. James School in 1947 and Holy Spirit High School in 1951, where he played as a Varsity letterman in Basketball, Football and Baseball. In 1951, he was named to the Atlantic County Basketball First Team and was the Atlantic County Scoring Champion. He worked as an electrician with IBEW Local 211/351, until retiring in 1991. Charlie was a veteran of the Korean War, and served in the United States Navy, as a Machinist Mate on the USS McNair. He was a Distinguished Service Medal recipient. Charles was a lifetime parishioner of St. James Church in Ventnor and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid golfer, bowler and loved the betting on the ponies. Charles is survived by his devoted wife, Mary (nee Durney), to whom he was married for 63 years; his sister Janet Walls (Joseph); six children: Charles Jr., Kathleen (Phillip) Wirth, Eileen DiPasquale, Daniel (Andrea), Donna (Thomas) McFadden, and James (Andrea), as well as 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Kathryn Peterson; his brother, Edwin; sister, Miriam Ashmen; and his precious daughter, Mary Lou.In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Charles Peterson's name, to the Make a Wish Foundation (wish.org) and the Holy Spirit High School Scholarship Fund, Absecon, NJ(holyspirithighschool.com). A viewing will be held from 9-11am on Wednesday, January 24th, followed by an 11am Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Parish: St. James Church, Ventnor.
