SCHREIBER, EILEEN - 91, of Egg Harbor Township passed away on May 9th. Born in Denver, Colorado, May 5, 1925. She spent her youth and girlhood in Salt Lake City. While attending the University of Utah, 1942-1945, she met her husband Jonas Schreiber at a USO dance during WWII. He was a navigator on B-24's (then trained as an Actuary), slated for European combat. His plane crashed in Wendover Field, Utah. While waiting for a new plane he went to the Jewish Community Center and met his future wife, Eileen. After 34 missions he returned to Salt Lake City and married Eileen. They moved to Washington, DC for the duration of the war. They returned to New Jersey and lived in West Orange. Jonas Schreiber, a prominent Actuary, died on June 16, 1980 and Eileen continued to live in West Orange until the age of 80. She became a prominent artist in water colors, acrylic and collage, as well as in print making. Her major achievements were in mixed media and collage. Her work reflects her life, and the subjects she created were influenced by her youth in Utah, her home in Long Beach Island, and her life in North Jersey. She attended the University of Utah for three (3) years, five (5) years in print making at Montclair State College and one year in print making at New York University, with Krishna Reddy, a prominent print maker. She moved, at the age of 80, to Egg Harbor Township. She is listed in "Who's Who in American Art," "Who's Who in America," "Who's Who in American Women," and "Who's Who in World of Art". She has had fourteen (14) one women shows in North Jersey and throughout New York City. Her work has been shown in screen exhibitions in New Jersey State Museum, Newark Museum, Virginia State Museum, Albrecht Gallery Museum of Art, Arcoran Museum Work OC, University of Utah, Wyoming, Virginia, National Academy of New York City, London, England, Florence, Italy, Naples, Italy, Greece, India, etc. and is in collections. Johnson and Johnson, IBM, PSE&G, NYU, Seton Hall University, Harvard, Somerset, Morris Community College, AT&T, Barclay Bank of England, Sovereign Bank, just to name a few. She was also a founding member of Temple Israel of South Orange, known as Sharey Tefilo Israel of South Orange, currently member of Temple Beth Israel of Northfield, New Jersey and the Jewish Community Center of L.B.I., as well as anti-defamation league, American-Jewish Congress, N.J.A., B'Nai Brith and many conservation organizations. She is a life member of National Association of Women Artists in New York City, where she was chairman for twelve (12) years of works on paper. She is also a member of New York Artist Equity and the NOYES Museum. She has three (3) children, Jeffrey Schreiber (Debbie), Barbara Schreiber Testa (Ron), Michael Schreiber (Rosana) all of New Jersey, six (6) grandchildren; Leah, Jessica, Jonas, Sarah, Samantha and Jared, and three (3) great grandchildren; Jacob, Zachary and Liam. Synagogue services will be held today 10 am at Congregation Beth Israel, 2501 Shore Road, Northfield. Interment to follow at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Egg Harbor Township.
