Sheppard, Richard E., - 88, of Franklin Township, died on Monday surrounded by family at home after an extended illness. Born in Bridgeton, NJ, Richard was a lifelong area resident of South Jersey. He graduated from Millville High School, Class of 1948 and then served in the United States Air Force. He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he did recovery and repair of airplanes. After the service, Richard was a member of the Iron Workers Local #399 Camden, NJ. Most notably, he worked on the twin span of the Delaware Memorial Bridge and the Walt Whitman Bridge. Richard was an avid duck hunter and always enjoyed hunting in Peek's Meadow on the Maurice River. He also enjoyed fishing in the Delaware Bay and in Port Salerno, Florida. Richard also raised and trained field trial English Setters, and showed AKC Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, winning many ribbons and trophies over the years. He is survived by: wife, Evelyn (Evison); sons, Steve Sheppard, Scott Sheppard (Cheryl May), and Richard Sheppard (Maria); brother, Elmer Warren (Carol); 2 grandsons and 1 great grandson and great grand daughter; a niece and many nephews. Richard was pre-deceased by: mother Alberta Domako; sister, Mary Ellen Bartholomew. Services will be held on Saturday at 10am in the Rocap Shannon Memorial Funeral Home of Millville, NJ. Burial will follow in the Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 9am until 10am.
