Margaret O'Brien at Jingle's Bait and Tackle in North Beach Haven had another season "first" to report Tuesday morning.
She said Brian Dress hooked up a 20-30-pound black drumfish while anchored on his Bounty Hunter off Little Beach. O'Brien has heard of a couple of others, too.
O'Brien also said a couple of bluefish were reported in the back bays of Long Beach Island. Brian Fillman caught a 30 1/2-inch striped bass in the surf at Holgate. O'Brien said more bass are being caught by anglers plugging warmer back-bay waters under lights at night from street-end bulkheads at LBI.
They are stirring at Chestnut Neck Boat Yard in Port Republic. Mary Ann Schutz said Mullica River has loads of white perch.
And two Chestnut Neck regulars - Gary Brill and Ed Ablett - each picked off two keeper striped bass. She said fish were caught way upriver. Stripers are following herring as they migrate up the Mullica.
