Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) celebrated his 24th birthday by going 2-for-4, including his 20th double of the year, with a walk and a run scored to help the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) beat the Jacksonville Suns (Marlins) 7-4 in a double-A Southern League game Saturday night.

Szczur is hitting .290 with 52 runs scored, 37 RBIs and 20 steals on 30 attempts in 90 games. His on-base percentage is .359.

Tennessee improved to 52-44 overall and 18-9 in the second half of the league's split season.

Darren Ford (Vineland) did not play for the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) in 2-0 loss to the Gwinnett Braves in a triple-A International game.

Ford, an outfielder, is hitting .210 with 20 runs scored, 12 RBIs and 19 stolen bases in 54 games.

Indianapolis fell to 61-41.

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is 4-6 with a 4.65 ERA in 18 starts for the Lynchburg HillCats (Braves) in the Class A Advanced Carolina League.

In 98 2/3 innings, he has given up 103 hits and 45 walks while striking out 64.

Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is 7-7 with a 4.46 ERA in 18 starts for the Clinton LumberKings in the Class A Midwest League.

In 101 innings, he has given up 102 hits, walked 35 and struck out 61.

Darren Fischer (Cumberland Regional) did not pitch for the Princeton Rays in a 5-3 loss to the Kingsport Mets in a rookie-level Appalachian League game.

Princeton fell to 6-22 with the loss.

Fischer is 0-2 with a 3.29 ERA in eight relief appearances. In 13 2/3 innings, he has allowed six hits and four walks while striking out 10.
