Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) played center field as a defensive replacement for the final two outs of the game as the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) beat the Huntsville Stars (Brewers) 6-3 in the double-A Southern League on Saturday night.

The Smokies improved to 55-48.

Szczur is hitting .279 with 54 runs scored, 38 RBIs and 20 steals in 97 games. His on-base percentage is .348.

Darren Ford (Vineland) did not play for the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) as they beat the Syracuse Chiefs (Nationals) 7-5 in 10 innings in the triple-A International League.

Indianapolis is 63-48.

Ford is  hitting .221 with 22 runs scored, 13 RBIs and 20 stolen bases in 58 games.

Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is 8-7 with a 4.21 ERA in 20 starts.

In 109 innings, he has given up 107 hits, walked 37 and struck out 65.

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is 4-7 with a 4.69 ERA in 19 starts for the Lynchburg HillCats (Braves) in the Class A Advanced Carolina League.

In 101 2/3 innings, he has given up 108 hits, struck out 67 and walked 49.

Darren Fischer (Cumberland Regional) is 0-3 with a 5.52 ERA in nine relief appearances for the Princeton Rays in the rookie-level Appalachian League.

In 14 2/3 innings, he has given up 11 hits, struck out 11 and walked four. The Rays got rained out Saturday.
