ATLANTIC CITY — Paulsboro heavyweight Chazz Witherspoon will be back action after a two-year layoff Saturday at The Claridge — A Radisson Hotel.

Witherspoon (36-3, 28 KOs) will face last-minute replacement Lamont Capers (9-11-4, 1 KO), of Hawley, Pennsylvana, in an eight-round main event at the Claridge’s Celebrity Theatre.

Witherspoon, 36, owns a seven-bout winning streak, but hasn’t fought since Oct. 1, 2016. He was supposed to take on Mike Sheppard (25-22-2, 11 KOs), of Palestine, West Virginia, Saturday, but Sheppard was forced to withdraw for medical reasons.

Capers’ time between fights has been much shorter. The 26-year-old earned a second-round TKO over Tracey Johnson last Saturday in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Witherspoon, a former basketball standout at Paulsboro High School and a Saint Joseph’s University graduate, is 6-0 with six knockouts since suffering a third-round TKO loss to former prospect Seth Mitchell at Boardwalk Hall in 2012.

On the undercard, Pleasantville heavyweight Hector Perez (3-1, 2 KOs) will take on Trenton’s Mike Hilton (8-0, 7 KOs).

Two local fighters, Pleasantville welterweight Anthony Young (18-2, 6 KOs) and Atlantic City super-middleweight Gabriel Pham (6-1, 4 KOs) were also supposed to be on the undercard but will not be competing.

A contractual dispute forced organizers to cancel Young’s fight against Mexico’s Fidel Monterrosa Munoz (38-16-1, 30 KOs). Pham’s scheduled opponent, Blake Mansfield (6-1-1, 4 KOs) of Burlington, North Carolina, did not show up for Friday’s weigh-in at the Flagship Resort.

Notes: Doors to the Celebrity Theatre open at 6 p.m. with the first of seven fights scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced from $60 to $150 and are available through Mis Downing Promotions by calling 609-712-3854.
