Sectional and state playoff games for three local teams were postponed Tuesday due to unplayable field conditions due to Monday’s rain.
The Ocean City High School field hockey team was scheduled to play against Moorestown in the state Group III semifinals at Hightstown High School. The Red Raiders will instead play the Quakers at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the same location.
The Mainland Regional and Ocean City girls soccer teams also were forced to postpone their games in the South Jersey Group III semifinals.
The fifth-seeded Red Raiders were supposed to play at top-seeded Moorestown, while the second-seeded seeded Mustangs were scheduled to host third-seeded Toms River South.
Both sectional semifinals were rescheduled to 2 p.m. Wednesday. However, the Mainland game now will be played on Egg Harbor Township’s turf field.
“Anytime you are gearing up for a game and getting ready to play, you are definitely a little anxious,” Mainland coach Alex Weidman said. “But we have been dealing with this all season. We kind of dubbed this as the ‘rainy season’ this year.
“We have been shifting games around because of the weather or field conditions, so this is nothing new to us. We will just be ready to go tomorrow.”
Several games were postponed Monday, too, and rain fell for much of Tuesday.
