Thursday: Went 0 for 1 in a 5-4 loss to the Pirates in Pittsburgh. He entered the game as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning and popped out to short.

Friday: The Padres will face the Pirates in a 7:05 p.m. start. Ivan Nova (2-3, 5.01 ERA) starts for Pittsburgh. Szczur is 1 for 2 against him in his career.

Stats: Szczur is hitting .250 (11 for 44) with one home run, eight runs scored, four RBIs and two stolen bases in 32 games. ... The Padres are 17-28.
