Wildwood Crest surfer Maddie Peterson made the most of her wild-card entry into the World Junior Championships in New South Wales, Australia, this week.

Peterson advanced to the second round of the championships Thursday before being eliminated by fellow American Alyssa Spencer. Spencer recorded a score of 13, while Peterson scored a 7.10.

On the first day of the championships Wednesday, Peterson finished second in Heat 2 of Round 1 with a score of 11.30. Peterson was coming off a second-place finish in the Soup Bowl Pro Junior competition in Barbados in November.
